September 2016

Acadia National Park has been on our must-see list since we moved to the East Coast and we decided to make a trip in October, trying to time our visit with the fall colors. Of course, the fall colors were unusually late, so we missed the peak color, but we still had a great trip and enjoyed exploring the park.

We spent 3 days and two nights in the park. We stayed in Bar Harbor since the weather can be a bit unpredictable and the potential of camping in cold fall rain didn’t sound too appealing. But Bar Harbor is a really cute town, and very convenient for accessing the park, so it turned out to be a great choice and allowed us to experience a small coastal New England town. Also, lobster for dinner!

Hikes to lighthouses, waterfalls, peaks, and sunsets

We also spent a couple half-days in Portland with Katharine’s friend Kate. She gave us a tour of the city with stops for blueberry beer, and we made a trip out to the famous Portland Head Light.

We really enjoyed the ocean views and challenging hikes of Acadia. Another National Park checked off the list!

Well, we are officially over a year behind on updating our blog – let’s see if we can catch up! Starting with a Labor Day weekend trip from 2015.

We made the drive up to Niagara Falls and spent our first day exploring the US side.  We walked around Goat Island, got drenched at Cave of the Winds, and then headed into Horseshoe Falls on the Maid of the Mist boat! The boat ride is an unforgettable experience, it’s just amazing to feel the falls all around you.

We spent the night in Canada at the Marriott Fallsview and spent the morning enjoying the sunrise over the falls from our hotel room.  On the Canadian side we did the Journey Behind the Falls and at night saw the falls lit up by fireworks and colored lights.  By the end of our visit we felt like we had experienced the falls from all angles and light.

On the third day we drove home making a quick stop at Watkins Glen State Park in NY.  Although these waterfalls were just a trickle compared to Niagara, they were in such a unique beautiful setting. Definitely worth the stop!
